39 Anglican Articles of Religion: the marriage of Priests, excommunicate persons homolies, civil authority, private property, and oaths (Articles 32-39)

August 26, 2013

This is the final segment of the St. Andrews Anglican Church in Little Rock’s adult ed presentation on the 39 Articles of Religion. St. Andrews deserves special thanks and credit for permitting a class on such weighty doctrinal matters. The Articles are part of Anglican identity and, we pray, a source of integrity for the Anglican portion of the Household of God. Nate Smith and I (Pat Lynch) make the final presentation. You may listen to the audio file here. The notes on Articles 32-35 will be available here: Articles 32-35 and you may find my notes on 36-39 hereHO Articles WK 10.

Again, thanks to all who have shown interest and to St. Andrews Anglican Church.

39 Articles of Religion: The Anglican vies of the Lord’s Supper (Articles 28-31, including an ourstanding discussion of “dippin'” versus “sippin'”)

August 26, 2013

Nate Smith takes on the section of the Anglican Articles dealing with the Lord’s Supper. This is great stuff and you do not want to miss Dr. Smith’s conversation about “both kinds” and how the wine is received. Dr. Smith is a medical doctor with a background in communicable diseases and is head of the Arkansas Health Department. Here is the link to the recording and the notes are coming soon!.

39 Anglican Articles on Sacraments and Baptism

August 17, 2013

Sorry for the tardiness in posting this latest addition to the St. Andrews series on the 39 Articles of Religion. I am teaching on Articles 23-27. This deals with Sacraments, Baptism, the unworthiness of ministers, the use of local languages for worship, and lawfully ministering to the congregation. The audio link is here, and you can get the handout here: HO 39 Articles WK 7.

Collect for the Transfiguration of Christ

August 6, 2013

O GOD, who on the mount didst reveal to chosen witnesses thine only-begotten Son wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistering; Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may be permitted to behold the King in his beauty, who with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end. Amen.

First public worship service set by New Hope Anglican Church of Little Rock

August 5, 2013

Yes, that is the Hillcrest Chapel which is a very cool little church on Woodlawn next to Pulaski Heights Presbyterian. It is an old comfortable space where many voices have been raised heavenward in the past 100-plus years. Sam Murrell is a dear friend and he tells me the music will be inspirational and well suited for folks living in the here and now. The music will be kinda’ hip and Holy Communion will be celebrated in a very simple and traditional Anglican style. Did I mention that Sam is one of the finest preachers in Little Rock? Don’t miss it!

Our series on the 39 Articles continues with the Church, Purgatory, and more on ministry

Nate Smith is teaching on Articles 19-22 at St.Andrew’s Anglican Church in Little Rock. Nate is a pretty tough customer; holding a Theological Masters Degree from the Dallas Theological Seminary (an excellent credential from an excellent school), and also a Masters in public health. Did I mention that Nate is a Medical Doctor and the interim head of the (Arkansas) State Department of Health. He is an awesome guy and he prepared an awesome handout, which is available at HO Articles WK 6 19-22. I am certain that you would like to listen and you can here.
